Isn't this view mesmerizing?
The lights of Paris
As twilight fades, the city of Paris lights up. Streets and buildings are bathed in light as well as grand monuments such as the Dôme des Invalides, seen in today's image. During his reign, King Louis XIV asked for streetlights to be erected throughout the city so that the police could catch lawbreakers easily, ensuring no dark alleys where they could hide. The locals were also asked to put up lanterns, and oil lamps, and lit candles on their windows.
Today, the City of Light is a dream destination for travelers who seek out museums, cuisine, and a romantic setting. The city has a lot of history to offer in the form of gardens, monuments, catacombs, and more, with volumes to be learned about the rich French and Parisian culture.

Chateau de Pierrefonds, France
Pierrefonds Castle has a rich and complex history dating back to the Middle Ages. It was built in the 14th century by Louis d'Orléans, brother of King Charles VI of France, on the ruins of an older castle. After being besieged and then dismantled at the beginning of the 17th century by the troops of Louis XIII, the castle remained in ruins until the 19th century when Napoleon III asked the architect Viollet-le-Duc to restore it. This will use innovative reconstruction techniques to restore the damaged parts of the castle.

Season of light in the City of Light
Galeries Lafayette, Paris
Surely one of the grandest stores found in any city is the Galeries Lafayette in Paris. It's not just a place to shop but a destination as popular as any in the City of Light. At a time when department stores are fading and the entire retail industry is shifting, the Galerie holds fast. It has survived financial crises, wars, and now the internet, remaining a celebrated part of life in Paris. Like Macy's or Rockefeller Center in New York, the Galeries Lafayette is synonymous with the holidays. A giant fir is decorated every holiday season under the store's signature stained glass dome—a ritual of Christmas cheer that Parisians have embraced for generations.

Turenne
Turenne is a commune in the Corrèze department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in central France. It is characterized by its height and unique position on top of a cliff. The hilltop town of Turenne overlooks the countryside in all directions. Atop the hill, there remain the ruins of the 13th-century medieval Château de Turenne. This castle served as the feudal powerbase of one of the most powerful dynasties in medieval France - the Viscounty of Turenne. They reigned over the regions of Limousin, Périgord, and Quercy for almost 10 centuries from the early Middle Ages until the 1700s.

Magic fallen from the sky
Roland's Breach in the Pyrenees
This is the kind of image in front of which one cannot help but emit a "wow" of wonder. We are in front of the Roland's Breach, located on the periphery of the Cirque de Gavarnie, in the Hautes-Pyrénées, and behind which flow the billions of stars of the Milky Way. Very popular with hikers, this gap is a natural hole, 40 meters wide and 70 meters deep. Located at an altitude of 2807 meters, it plays the role of a mountain pass which marks the border between Spain and France on all its width.
According to the legend, the breach was created by Roland, Charlemagne's nephew, while he was trying to destroy his sword by hitting it against the rock.
The Cirque de Gavarnie is one of the most impressive sites in the French Pyrenees and was even listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.

If given Menton, make lemonade
Menton, France
Anchoring the eastern end of the French Riviera near the Italian border is Menton, the so-called 'Pearl of France.' It's prized for its beauty and incredible weather that features an average of 316 days a year with full or partial sun. That climate enables Merton to enjoy amazing lemon yields that have given rise to the annual Fête du Citron, or Menton Lemon Festival, a 17-day extravaganza in February featuring floats and sculptures created out of lemons and oranges. More than 200,000 visitors marvel at the nearly 150 tons of fruit used in the festival.
Owing to its strategic location, Menton and its surrounding locale have been coveted by various powers for centuries. The princes of Monaco, Napoleon III, German Nazi forces, and the King of Sardinia among others have all held sway over this jewel of the Côte d'Azur. These days, Menton has something for everyone—gorgeous gardens, pastel-painted architecture, beaches, cafes, nightlife, and of course, lemons.
